In my ever-increasing days off, I have actually had time to hang out with my wonderful boyfriend and do all the stuff we’ve been meaning to do for months and months. Of course it also helps that we have a mobile car again, hopefully my poor truck will be back on the road soon too! I’m really excited for all this time mostly because it means that I’ll have more time to devote to our store, Chicken Lays An Egg. I would like to look into having stock available on our website, but I still have some logistical issues to work out if we did do that. Thank you so much to all the very sweet people who have inquired though! If you do live in Cincinnati or just want to see some of our stock, become a fan of our Facebook page. Since I had Monday off, Jacob and I went out to play at Ikea. I say ‘play’ because we always end up having a really good time messing with everything and mocking ridiculous things that no one needs, which Ikea has no shortage of. Although, we were actually there to pick up some more pieces for my massive and ever-expanding closet. I cannot wait until he has time to put it together, I’ll finally have some storage for off season clothes. It also gave me a chance to debut my new favorite skirt from H&M and cool vintage pillbox bag from Chicken Lays An Egg! I love them both so much, and I can predict that you’ll see a lot of them in the coming weeks.

This weekend I went out with my best girlie (my business partner and roommate) to celebrate the quitting of my job! It had gotten to the point where I was being ridiculously over-managed and spied on by my boss, and I just won’t put up with that crap. I am however very sad to leave this good of a job- fantastic pay, great benefits, and it could be very fun at times. I just have too much self-respect to be told how many times a day I’m allowed to go to the bathroom at this age. So I will be going back to my old job as a preschool teacher pretty soon, which I am really excited about. But the thing I’m really excited about is having time off!! I’ll be working fewer hours and I’ll always be off on weekends- what an exciting prospect! Now I’ll have the time to put into all the things I love, especially the blog.

Maya and I had a great time shopping yesterday, and we got some really amazing stuff. We finally got an H&M store here in Cincinnati, and in an evil plot to make me spend a bunch of money, they put it right next door to the Forever 21. Bastards. The biggest score of the day by far came when I strolled over to the shoe section of Forever 21 and saw the platform Chloe boot knockoffs that I thought were totally sold out!!! Of course they only had 2 pairs and they were both size 6, and I wear a 7 1/2. Somehow though the shoe gods were smiling on me and they fit. So of course I had to wear them out as soon as possible.

And since Maya was looking so cute in her new duds, I had to include her too. You would not believe how differently Maya dressed when I met her almost 6 years ago! She wore only darker earth tones, no bright colors, very simple silver jewelry only, and never heels. I am so proud of how much she’s branched out, especially lately.

I know I’ve mentioned it recently, I’ve been really unhappy with my outfits lately. While I like this one, it’s not totally up to snuff. I had been looking pretty hardcore for a drape cardigan like this though, so I was pretty stoked to find one I really like. I was also pretty happy to take advantage of the warm day and not rock a coat.

Well, as much as I distance myself from people who create drama and try very hard not to let the stress get to me, it does occasionally happen. Luckily this is the end of it for me, my drama resolved itself. I try to live a life full of good karma. It’s the closest thing I’ll ever have to a religion, and I think it helps me out of these situations. Be good and good things will happen in return. So here’s to more good karma!

I also got an email back from the always lovely Julie at Orchid Grey, and she has graciously put up a link on her page too! I’m loving these blogger ladies, they’re a bunch of sweethearts!

I think I’ve also been feeling better because I finally whipped out my needle and did some long-overdue stitching! I made this really cute set of felt breakfast ornaments (includes toast, fried egg, and of course bacon) to sell at the store. The boy snapped a few of me elbow deep in some felt bacon.

I wish you could see the back panel in these! There's a cute little pleat right down the middle on the top.

I borrowed these little lovelies from the store, via Maya. I love that they look like little candies your Gramma would've had on her coffee table.

forever a weakness

I have to admit I was weakened by my proximity to Forever 21 earlier today and was further weakened when I saw this little beauty. I did something I never do and bought it without trying it on and luckily, it worked out! It was also suuuuper comfortable, however I promise you I will not be continuing this trend of lazy little one piece outfits. I also got this really cool 2 finger bird ring. I actually was into it so much I bought it in both black and white.

Also Maya and I just finished the holiday window for the store, come by and check it out!

Since yesterday was my very sweet, handsome boyfriend’s birthday we went out with a few friends to our favorite restaurant, the always delicious Rio Grande. It’s this little Mexican place with unbelievably cheap and awesome food and GIANT margaritas. If you live in Cincinnati and have never been there, you are doing yourself a serious disservice.

Anyway, the best part of the evening was definitely him opening the little plush Cthulhu I made for him. Cthulhu, if you’ve never heard of him, is a mythical evil sea monster guy from and H.P. Lovecraft story. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cthulhu)

As you can see from the picture, that night I debuted my little pink ballerina dress, gray scarf, and saddle shoes. It was the same outfit I posted a week or so ago when I bought that dress, so I didn’t think I needed to redo it.

I went for warmth today since there was a pretty nasty wind. I love how the color of this sweater looks on me, but I hardly ever wear it. I have a bad habit of forgetting that I own sweaters due to the fact that I have to keep all my heavy stuff like that in my living room closet. The dinky hanging one I have in my room is always about to collapse as it is. Tangent. Anyway, as much as I love the pocket watch necklace I’m wearing, it is a perfect example of why I usually don’t shop at Urban Outfitters. It cost almost $25, which is honestly way more than I usually pay for jewelry, but I loved it so I bought it. Less than a month after I got it, it stopped keeping time, and then shortly after that the second hand just fell off and now lies in the bottom of the face. Annoying. But I do totally love the funky closure on the leather belt I’ve got on, and I got it for $1! And I got the jacket for free!

My dog, Chopper gets really jealous when I ignore her when I’m posing as you can see.

I thought I’d do a little post about other ladies that I get outfit inspiration from and are generally awesome. Most recently I flipped about the ever-fabulous M.I.A.’s shark attack dress. She just has such great, fun, and funky style. She never takes herself too seriously; and I think that’s a really important quality as a human, not to mention as a fashionista. And she makes fuckin’ awesome music. Total badass.

This isn’t anyone I know, my boy just sent it to me when he happened to run across it. But it’s in the same vein as M.I.A.’s.

And what kind of little bloggin’ girl would I be if I didn’t mention the fabulous Audrey Hepburn? I just found out about her and her pet deer recently, and I have to say, I was entranced. She was working on the set of Green Mansions, 1959 with this little guy Pippin, and they apparently just bonded. He lived with her on and off for a year, and went everywhere with her. Another amazing facet of Miss Hepburn.

Had an easy day today at the store, so I just went for comfort. I started the day in these very cute two-tone mary janes, but after a few hours I had to change. They’re just a little too big. Needless to say, I was pretty stoked that we had just gotten in a pair of low top Chucks! After I closed up I had some fun playing around in the dressing room, which is one of my favorite parts of our store…

We ran all around Northside and had a fantastic little night on the town. Since Chicken Lays An Egg just signed up for a collaborative ad with Mayday, (as well as Sidewinder, Bughouse Video, Melt, and possibly Shake It Records) Maya and I were eager to meet Kim and Vanessa the new owners of Mayday and Sidewinder. They were as sweet and fun as I could have hoped for and I hope to do a lot of business with them in the future. Support your local female small business owners and go check out Mayday, it still has all the things you love about the old Gypsy Hut but better!
