One of my favorite things in Cincinnati is the Contemporary Arts Center, which has been offering some really amazing shows for years. Last month they hosted Davy Rothbart of Found Magazine and author of The Lone Surfer of Montana Kansas. Occasionally you can catch Davy reading a short story or talking about his family on This American Life (another of my favorite things). Being the little garbage-picker and nosy person that I am, I’m a huge fan of Found. It is a compilation of found things ranging from love notes and pictures to homework assignments sent in by people across the world. Anyway, I’d always really wanted to go to a Found event because Davy reads all the items himself, and has a really great delivery. I have to say, the best part of the evening definitely had to be getting to meet him at the end and give him my big shoebox full of finds. I took some pictures but I felt too awkward using a flash so they didn’t really turn out.

Anyway, on our walk from the CAC to our car, we passed my favorite downtown photo spot, The House of Adam! I was also sporting my fabulous new Jessica Simpson shoes and a sparkly sweater, so what more could you want??

Hey ladies and gents! Despite what you may have thought, I didn’t join a nudist colony or get eaten by wolves, I just haven’t been able to set aside time to post lately. I really do wish that I was able to blog on a more regular basis but with all the hours I spend at my shop, my job at Northslice (the awesome pizza place across the street), and babysitting, I barely have time to hang with my boy much less anything else. No matter how busy I am I always end up feeling guilty about the things that I’m not able to do. Oh well, things at Chicken Lays An Egg are going great and I really have nothing to complain about!

I do actually have some more recent pictures to post, but I found these the other day and I can’t believe I never put them up! My brother sent me this AMAZING shirt from Korea and needless to say, I thought it was perfect.

Oy vey, I’m so behind on my bloggin’! I am so very happy that the holidays are over though, that always makes things a little easier. Things have been crazy crazy busy at the shop though which is great- we had our best week ever this month!

Jacob and I were poking around our apartment building the other day when we realized that the vacant apartment on the first floor was unlocked. Of course we had to go check out what it looked like and I thought their beautiful claw foot tub might make a good prop. The shoot didn’t turn out quite how I’d hoped, but I thought you might enjoy it anyway!

So fresh and so clean!

I really can’t express how much I love this outfit, I’m so glad that I unearthed my bow ties! I’ve really been channeling Janelle Monae stylistically a lot lately.

Hey everybody, despite what you may have thought, I didn’t actually fall off the face of the earth or run off and join the circus. I’ve had a crazy last few weeks, but honestly more than anything I was in a style slump. I just wasn’t even wearing anything worth documenting. I’ve gotten into a bad habit of just tossing on jeans and boots to avoid the snow as much as I can, but that’s lame and too easy!

I did buy these ultra-fabulous Dollhouse boots recently though, which I immediately declared my ‘winter heels’.

I mean, how could I pass up these beauties at only $20?!

As you may have noticed, when I can’t come up with a title I revert to song lyrics I love. Anybody recognize it?

I have been really stifled with my styling lately, due largely to the massive pile of laundry on my floor that I’ve been ignoring. This thing has also begun to eat my belts and shoes and I can never seem to find what I actually want to wear. However I did really like how well this sweet lion belt went with the roses though.

I’m soooo in love with this belt. Mega win that it actually fit.

I had to finally break down and buy a new pair of flats- my cheap Target pair had an irreversible and intense vinegar smell.

Lately the bars in Cincinnati have been booking all these incredible free shows- already this week we’ve had Xiu Xiu, Deerhoof, The Thermals, and The Fruit Bats! Last night The Thermals played at one of my favorite bars, Mayday so I kicked off my flats and put on the Stuart Wietzman heels I got at the thrift store for $6. Ready for a night on the town!

new camera day one

What a fantastic week it’s been! I don’t know about you, but I had a really rough summer. I was broke constantly (like, I have 50 cents to my name kind of broke) and I was just in a slump. Every year, as soon as the smell of fall hits then air I get reinvigorated; and this year has been no exception. I have to say that it also doesn’t hurt that my luck has seriously changed in the last few weeks. As I mentioned in my last post, my mom did the most awesome, generous thing ever and bought me not only a camera, but a sewing machine as well! I’m almost overwhelmed by how much this is going to do for everything in my life: my blog, online sales for Chicken Lays An Egg, learning how to do more serious alterations, and just the fun factor! I feel like I can finally throw myself back into my blog, which makes me really happy. Aaaaaannyway, here are some of the shots Jacob and I took today! These first few are just some that I took around our apartment last night.

Have I ever mentioned that we have four dogs in our apartment? Maya (roommate/business partner extraordinaire) has two and Jacob and I have two.

Lady, Maya’s other dog is a beagle/shih tzu mix.

Charlie is the puppy that I got Jacob for Christmas last year. Supposedly she’s a boxer/collie mix, but she looks nothing like either of those. She actually looks like a tiny bloodhound or something. Whatever she is, she’s very sweet and a master of looking sad.

Chopper has the extra-sad face going on because she had just gotten in trouble for growling at one of our friends. She’s a little skittish sometimes because she was abused so badly by her original owners, so we are forgiving when she freaks out. It kills me when she looks that sad, but she also knows that and also has it down to a fine art.

Jacob took this earlier today at the shop, and it’s my favorite picture that’s been taken with my camera so far. The entire brick wall of the building next door to us is covered in ivy but it’s starting to die off for the season, hence the black base. This picture hasn’t been enhanced or anything, that’s just how it came out! Oh wait, this is a style blog right? I guess I should show you what I was wearing.

I love these fucking jeans so much. I don’t know what I’d do if something happened to them.

That is a real horseshoe crab, covered in gold and made into a brooch. I got it from my friend who sold me the sweet parrot necklace from a few entries ago.

Thanks to the naturally cool temperature of our apartment, I had no idea how incredibly humid it was outside today and opted for pants. Not one of my best calls; I was sweating everywhere. Luckily we just got a new A/C unit for the shop so at least I got to be nice and cool while I was working. I’m hoping that it will cool off a little by 8, as I’m planning on going to a concert on Fountain Square tonight (in downtown Cincinnati) as part of the MidPoint Music Festival. If you’re in the area make sure to catch The Minor Leagues!

I borrowed this cool piece of Indian costume jewelry from my roommate and business partner Maya today that I was really excited to wear and was happy it went well with the conductor stripe jeans! As you can see I have worn my new shoes every day since I got them. That’s not just for my posts either, I actually haven’t worn any other shoes- except maybe some flip flops to take the pups out.

I absolutely love the little ruffle on the clutch and the carved bangles!

I cannot believe that I somehow failed to mention all the exciting things that Chicken Lays An Egg is going to be involved in! Among other things, we are participating in a real burlesque show this Saturday at our favorite bar, Mayday. If you live in or around Cincinnati, please come to the free Brews, Tattoos and Hair Do’s show! The Cin City Burlesque Troop will be doing all the dancing and all of the fabulous clothes (and pasties too) are from Chicken Lays An Egg!! Mayday will also be tapping several new specialty beers, and many of the local tattoo shops will be there with their portfolios answering questions. It will be a night you DO NOT want to miss! The Brews, Tattoos and Hair Do’s link takes you to the Facebook event page for all the info.

On the personal clothing end, I have to say that I’ve been kind of disappointed in the similarity of my outfits lately. I don’t feel like I’m being creative and different enough, which simply means I need to put forth some effort and amp it up! Before I do that though, you get one more similar-ish outfit. I just got this amazing blazer yesterday and today is kind of a nasty gray day, so I had to rock it! As much as I love the way blazers look on so many ladies I have a lot of trouble finding ones that fit me right. So obviously I freaked out when I tried this on and looked in the mirror. I bought it off a friend of mine who is built like supermodel (super tall and thin) so I really doubted it would look good. However this is why I always feel compelled to try on things that I know will never fit, because sometimes they do! Sorry for the odd blurriness on some of them, I still can’t quite figure out what’s going on with my camera. : (

While I haven’t been holding up my end of the blogging lately, I’ve been surprising myself with the ease I’ve been choosing outfits. I was really glad to finally get to wear this vest that my mom gave me for Christmas. I love how fitted it is, and it goes so well with the extra flowy sleeves on my new shirt! And even better, the little metallic flecks woven into it are both gold and silver.
