it runs in the family

Having a big brother is kind of like having training wheels on being awesome- at least for me. For as long as I can remember my brother has been teaching me cool things, and style this is definitely notwithstanding. From an early age he was fascinated by antiquated things; cars, clothes, basically the entire 1930′s (and earlier) aesthetic. So for much of his life that was how he dressed- suspenders, fedoras, wingtips and bowties. As you can see, it rubbed off on me.

I was recently doing some cleaning at our dad’s house when I found an entire bag of bowties from Dan’s childhood! Needless to say I was pretty thrilled and immediately grabbed them to bring home. After I sent him some of these pictures he told me that he received that particular bowtie in first grade as a present from our Gramma. I’ve also taken to wearing a bunch of the antique watches that she gave me as bracelets, which is a great way to still sport them since none of them work! She knows how to make stylish grandkids for sure.

someone called me a fly girl today

Yeah, I got called a fly girl. Anyone who remembers In Living Color will understand why this kinda made my day.

Anyway, this is one of the super-fabu new blazers that I got last week and I am so in love with it! This whole outfit turned out pretty great I think, especially since I was half-asleep when I threw it together. :)

This is what your face looks like when you try not to squint into the sun. Yup.

Jacob has really been steppin’ up his style lately (which I love) so I of course have been making him pose for pictures. I think he was a little mad about it at first, but he gets more comfortable as it goes along.

I love that he put the glasses on. So cute.

I love these boots that he found too and can’t believe they fit his super-wide feet.

Love having a dude who like dressing up!

After spending pretty much the whole night last night catching up on reading all the style blogs I love, I attacked my closet with a new gusto. I played dress up for an hour or so and I think I came up with some pretty cool stuff. This look was inspired by some fabulous menswear for women looks I saw from the amazing German designer, Lena Hoschek (lots more on her soon).

I have to say, I’m pretty excited about today’s pictures! The boy and I were out walking and we happened to pass this mural and I thought it might make a good backdrop for a post.

This vintage (and super-stretchy) bodysuit used to belong to a 1960s Playboy bunny!

I’d been dying to do a jumping shot but I had to wait until I had a better camera, so….

I love my new used faux-lex.

Then later today I was out for a stroll and couldn’t resist snapping a few shots of the trees!

Well, I may as well take a few more of myself too…

Thanks for readin’ everybody!! What do you think of the filters? I’m just kind of dabbling in them for the first time, so be easy on me.
