at ease, sailor!

Hello class, today’s topic is rompers. Ok, so I personally have gone really back and forth about rompers. I think the right cut on the right body can look really cute, but there are so many baaaaaaaad rompers out there! They’re especially treacherous on me because of my long torso. That being said, I found this little sailor romper at the thrift store and decided to bring it home. I immediately removed the super-matronly sleeves and shortened the shorts about 4 inches- originally it really looked like it was made for somebody’s grandma. So this is what I ended up with, although in retrospect I wish I would have gone with a brown shoe instead of so much white.

What do you think?

It does have those pockets that I love so much….

It had to be done.

Overall, I’m not unhappy with it, I’m just not sure I’m totally in love either. I think a large part of my apprehension is due to the pleat in the front of the shorts, I’m not a huge fan of pleated pants or short. The other thing that I hate is when you’re wearing a romper with a belt, you pretty much have to completely undress when you pee. Annoying.

look ma, no scarf!

That’s right ladies and gents, for one day I am not wearing a scarf of any kind! I was glad to finally get to wear all of these pieces, especially since somehow have never worn any of them except the shoes. Now that I have such a massive closet that happens from time to time. The skirt was originally a gross old lady maxi skirt, but I love the color (and pockets!) so I brought it home and hemmed it, and the mustache necklace was made completely by me!

Remember Sam & Libby?

Seriously though, does anyone remember Sam & Libby shoes? I had a bunch of little bow flats like this in different colors when I was a kid and I loved them! I freaked when I found these at a thrift store.

a night on the town, a day with the kids

Last night Maya, Amy, and I went out to Mayday (the former Gypsy Hut) for the cd release party of The Minor Leagues, a really great local Cincinnati band. You can check em out at http://www.minorleaguesmusic.com/

We ran all around Northside and had a fantastic little night on the town. Since Chicken Lays An Egg just signed up for a collaborative ad with Mayday, (as well as Sidewinder, Bughouse Video, Melt, and possibly Shake It Records) Maya and I were eager to meet Kim and Vanessa the new owners of Mayday and Sidewinder. They were as sweet and fun as I could have hoped for and I hope to do a lot of business with them in the future. Support your local female small business owners and go check out Mayday, it still has all the things you love about the old Gypsy Hut but better!

Anyway, here’s what I wore; I only wish I had gotten better ones of Amy and Maya’s adorable outfits too.  Sorry for the image quality on some of these!

It was a completely accidental knee sock party!

And today I have an easy day of hanging with Max and Vivi, the kids I’ve been babysitting for most of their lives, so we’ve got a definite rapport. Not to mention that they really are really well-behaved, fun, and crazy smart. And if I ever planned on having a grown-up house, I’d love to have a gorgeous giant Victorian like theirs.
