mama’s got a brand new bag

As some of my fabulous readers may know, I’m gearing up to go to New York for Fashion Week! One of my very generous friends (who prefers to remain anonymous) gave me a plane ticket for Christmas and obviously I am losing my mind with excitement! Since Christmas I’ve been saving almost every penny and am finally starting to buy a few pieces to take, and this fringe bag might be my favorite. I went to H&M on a hunt for a lip-shaped bag (which I also bought but forgot to take a picture of) and found this beauty for $30. I just couldn’t say no. It reminded me of something my cool biker aunt would’ve had when I was a kid.

“Hello dahling.”

“You heard about my new bag right?”

Isn’t it gorgeous?

I just love all the neon in this little jacket.

And of course hooker boots!

The other piece that I’ve been wearing almost everyday lately is my Gramma’s charm bracelet. She got charms from her kids and whenever she traveled and it’s totally overloaded. As a kid I always admired it and I was so touched when she finally gave it to me a few years ago. Although we definitely don’t see eye to eye on many things, she has always been a huge influence on my style. For many years, she made most of her own clothes and was never afraid to try some out there stuff. She recently gave me some really beautiful riding boots too that you’ll see lots of once all this snow melts!

presto change-o

On a recent impromptu shopping trip I found the most adorable little patent leather Charlotte Russe mary janes for $10 and I fell in love. They even have the big chunky heel that I’ve been lusting after on so many shoes! Unfortunately they have absolutely no tread and I wore them on a slushy day, so I spent the day falling on my ass every time I went outside. Sometimes you gotta suffer for fashion though right?

I’m also looking to challenge myself to try new things stylistically too so I went out on a limb and got a longer skirt than I usually wear. I generally don’t wear anything between floor length and above my knee just because it tends to really shorten my already short self visually. Aaaanyway, I thought this skirt was cute and I actually don’t think I look like a frump monster (which is what I was imagining).

I mean, check how cute these suckers are!!

Thank god that I have such a technologically-savvy guy, I’d never get to do cool stuff like gifs without him!

Well as much as I liked that outfit it isn’t exactly great Friday night bar-wear. So I had to have a little costume change…..

Although,

apparently one of the side effects of starting to drink before having your picture taken is that you can only make weirdo faces.

I love the pailey-esque design on this button ring and who doesn’t love an elephant necklace…

besides possibly someone whose entire family was repeatedly trampled by elephants, I mean.

human christmas tree

Oy vey, I’m so behind on my bloggin’! I am so very happy that the holidays are over though, that always makes things a little easier. Things have been crazy crazy busy at the shop though which is great- we had our best week ever this month!

Jacob and I were poking around our apartment building the other day when we realized that the vacant apartment on the first floor was unlocked. Of course we had to go check out what it looked like and I thought their beautiful claw foot tub might make a good prop. The shoot didn’t turn out quite how I’d hoped, but I thought you might enjoy it anyway!

So fresh and so clean!

I really can’t express how much I love this outfit, I’m so glad that I unearthed my bow ties! I’ve really been channeling Janelle Monae stylistically a lot lately.
