being a model is hard

Last week a friend of mine asked me to do some styling for a video shoot he was directing. This is an odd side project, but Scott is a director by trade; and a good one. He works at local production studio Lightborne where he is currently working on Jay-Z’s tour video, among other random things. Anyway, I was supposed to be mostly just styling this shoot, but at the last minute our model got sick so I ended up doing all the modeling. I was more than happy to do it and in a way it was easier because I know what works on me. He’s still working on the actual video, but he pulled a couple of frames for me to share. I was really pretty happy with how all of them came out, especially since I really had no idea what to do going into it. But for real, being a model is much harder than it looks. I’m bad at not making funny faces, so I just went for looking intense and kind of angry. tux jacket/H&M, bow tie/Chicken Lays An Egg, tux shirt/thrift (altered by me), silver cummberbund/Chicken Lays An Egg, black skirt/thrift, (not pictured) tux shoes/thrift

I actually wore this tux to our last fashion show but I forgot to get any pictures of it, so I’m glad I got to wear it again. Scott really was in love with the green and clear windows on this warehouse in Camp Washington. For those of you not from Cincinnati or unfamiliar with it, Camp Washington is an odd little neighborhood right in the middle of the city consisting of homes, most of the city’s meat-packing plants, scrap yards, and lots of warehouses. It’s one of my brother’s favorite places in the world, and I have to say that it’s amazing grittiness has a special place in my heart. It’s great for photo shoots too.

This one was taken at the new home for the American Sign Museum in Camp Washington. I loved how well this outfit came together. That little pink dress is one of the best things I ever bought. It totally reminds me of Marla Singer‘s $1 thrift store dress and it goes with everything! I actually liked this whole thing so much that I wore it out that night. I wish it had been cool enough to justify me wearing the fur….

I was excited about this outfit- I was kind of trying to go for circus performer look. Unfortunately I accidentally left the tiny top hat that I made at the shop. The real bummer was that once we got up on the bridge the combination of running around in the sun and not eating yet made me get really close to passing out. Luckily, Scott liked the ‘dead model’ look, so we still got the shot.

I so love my Gaultier for Target dress. The material totally reminds me of a shower curtain.

That’s all for now!
