knockoffs

I had a little aha! moment when I was shopping online the other day when I found a ModCloth knockoff from Forever 21. I would like to preface this by saying how much I love ModCloth. I absolutely love the cut, quality, and overall design of their clothes. You really can’t beat them for good reproduction vintage style clothing. However, if you are on a shoestring budget, which I know many people are, they can be a little pricey. Like I said though, you’re paying for quality merchandise and craftsmanship. Here’s the adorable original:

The Senatorial Dress from ModCloth

Forever 21's version

As you can see, the skirt isn’t as full, the collar doesn’t have such a cool flared angle on it, and the pleats are nowhere near as well done. But, for $25, not terrible, and you still get the same feeling. Forever 21 also has a little jacket that’s based on this dress:

I also have a deep love for Forever 21′s shoes, especially the way I destroy shoes. It’s really just more cost effective for me to buy cheap ones and demolish them. So needless to say I got pretty excited about these Chloe boot knockoffs. They’re definitely not as cute as the original, but for $30 instead of $300 or more, pretty cute. I know Kansas Couture did a little blurb about these on her blog too.

I have to say, before I started reading style blogs, there is no way I would have spotted either of these. I guess I’m honing my skills. : )

Have a good day!

your eyes are so blue they leak

I know haven’t been putting good time into my little blog lately, and I am making a concerted effort to change that. I realized yesterday that this month is my blog’s six month birthday, and I want to make sure I put as much love and energy as I did at day one. Although like all things with a human touch, there are bound to be peaks and valleys.

I recently dug up a book of poetry by Jeffery McDaniel that I used to be obsessed with. He writes such gritty, beautiful poems. I was once an English major who dreamed of having poems tattooed all over my arms. Although I was also 19. But words used to evoke a deep fervor in me that I haven’t felt in a long time. I forgot my love of words long before I quit college, but I would really like to reawaken that part of myself. This one is by Derrick Brown, it’s one of my favorites.

I think it is safe to say we drank too much.
Must I apologize for the volume in my slobber?
Must I apologize for the best dance moves ever?
No.

Booze is my tuition to clown college.

I swung at your purse.
It was staring at me.

In outfit news- today I went for total comfort and ease with my boyfriend’s plaid shirt and some tights. I’ve been feeling guilty about how little I have worn these boots since I bought them, so I am making a conscious effort. I was pretty happy with how this looked though, and it was super comfy.
