Today was definitely one of the last few warm days we’ve got left here in Ohio. So me and the boy decided to take our pup out to the park for some fresh air. To bad all she wanted to do was smell stuff. Oh well! Also, please ignore the creepy catalog look I’ve got goin’ on in one of these. Believe it or not that was a real laugh.

Hello dear readers, hope all is well for you. Every spare moment I have this week is either being spent finishing the three costumes I agreed to make (I don’t know why I do these things to myself) or hardcore organizing and cleaning up at the store. But, it’s coming along beautifully! It’s finally starting to look like a real store. I did the window and dressed all the mannequins last night, which was super fun, and I thought I’d give a little sneak peak. So, here are our first week’s mannequins! Click the thumbnails for full size images.

I’ve been up since the ungodly hour of 9am moving the store to its fabulous new location in Northside, but it’s done. My god there are A LOT of clothes there. No joke, and my stuff isn’t even in there yet. It was really hard to avoid the temptation of shopping through Dana’s (one of my business partners) stuff, but I managed. So this week will be all about sorting and pricing. Anyway, here’s a little dress that my roommate Nancy actually got from Dana the first time I came to her store! I removed the sleeves to update it a little, but I love the giant buttons and, of course, the pockets.

I was pretty jealous of this dress when my roommate Nancy bought it, but it was a bit too stuffy. So one day I bought it from her and removed the sleeves. Once I did that, it was perfect. And I turned the buttons from the cuff into earrings! (not pictured)

Since I am borrowing this sewing machine, I have a TON of half-finished projects that I’m picking away at. But I thought I might post some pics of started projects just to show ya what I’m whipping up to sell at the store.

These first few were actually for one of my best friends who is leaving us soon and going back to Korea to teach English. I’m gonna miss you more than the cops get called on the downstairs neighbors Melika!!

It’s been a flurry of stitches round these parts in the last few days. I’m hoping to have most of this done by next week, once I do Max’s fitting and stuff. Thanks for lookin’ guys!!

DO WHAT YOU WANT!

I hope this just serves as a little reminder to everyone. This has been my background for months now, and it never fails to make me smile.

A good friend of mine, Becky recently let me borrow her modern age sewing machine  to help me finish the Where The Wild Things Are costume. (Who knew they made sewing machines after 1930?!) In doing so, she inadvertently turned my living room into a one woman sweatshop. I’m surprised I don’t have stitching blisters. Becky, you are a saint.  My living room is now strewn with fabric scraps of every type, spools of thread, ties, balls of yarn, felt, and pretty much anything used to craft. My roommate remarked on walking through that she felt like she was walking through my brain. I thought it seemed pretty accurate. Needless to say, I haven’t left my apartment at all except to go to work and to fight b.s. parking tickets.

Getting geared up to move a bunch of stuff from the old storefront in Camp Washington to Northside this Saturday! I’m definitely excited, but nervous. And I absolutely cannot WAIT for the opening!!! October 30, 6-11pm 1608 Chase Ave. We’ll also be open all day before the party. Bring your friends!!

Anyway, here’s Tuesday’s outfit….

I was watching an episode of Extras where one of the characters wears a scarf as a tie for a job interview, and I thought it looked awesome. See? TV teaches stuff.

Being that it’s been so glum and overcast round these parts, me and the boy haven’t left the house too much. So we decided to make a little trip out to the suburbs (gasp, heresy) and go to Ikea. We were on the hunt for a belt holder and a coat rack of some sort, and we were pretty successful. If only I had more money to buy the big awesome green shag rug I’ve been eyeballing, but not with those THREE parking tickets I got recently. C’est la vie.

So, even though I’m beyond broke, I of course still dream of owning more shoes. I found these little lovelies on target’s website, and fell immediately in love. And today I went to go order them, and SCORE, they are $5 cheaper now! Now only $19! They come in purple and a slate gray, go get yourself some. Now I just need to invest in some cute knee socks….

On other fronts of my life, the store’s opening got pushed back to October 30th. Bummer. Oh well, hopefully lots of people will come shop and eat some food before they go out for the evening. We’ll be open from 11am to the party, and the party will go from 6pm-11pm. We may even have local news coverage that night thanks to an old friend who works for WCPO. Thanks Megan!!!

Well, here’s Friday’s work outfit, nothing too fancy…

So I’ve been pretty crazy lately with finishing up the store, working, making stuff, babysitting, taking care of my sick boy, and of course making a Max costume (from Where The Wild Things Are). But its winding down, and we have an opening date in mind! It may be subject to change, but right now we are trying for Friday, October 23rd. If you’re in Cincy, please stop by our opening! It’s from 7 pm-12 am, and we’ll have music, free food, and LOTS of great deals! Bring your friends (Enemies too if they like cheap funky ass clothes and accessories)!!

Today’s outfit is from a few days ago when I actually left my house and went out with some of my ladies. The last time I wore this dress some crazy lady yelled after me that no matter what I did, there was no way I could convince her that I am a grape. Damn! I thought I was really foolin’ people!

So, this is just a little post about how great home remedies are. I just discovered gum on my pillowcase (don’t ask me how it got there) and I was really sad until I remembered what my high school government teacher told me one day when I sat in gum: if you rub the gum down with ice it hardens enough to chip right off.

Then I got to thinking about my other beloved remedies, such as using a piece of bread to pick up tiny glass shards. It works like a dream, even on carpet!

I wish I knew more actually, so this is a call for any of your home remedies!!
